APEEN – Portuguese Association of Energy Economics respects the privacy of everyone who visits this website or gets in touch with it. This policy explains which personal data are collected through the website, what they are used for and what your rights are, under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What data we collect
- Contact form: name, email, subject and message.
- Membership form: full name, tax number, identification number, academic qualifications, areas of interest, institution, address, postcode, city, country, telephone, email, type of membership, date of payment of the fee and your answer about the mailing list.
- Technical data: the IP address of anyone who submits a form, kept for 24 hours only to prevent abusive submissions. Like any server, the website's hosting also logs page requests (IP address, date and page requested) for security and operational reasons.
What we use the data for
- Replying to your message, based on your request and on APEEN's legitimate interest in replying to those who contact it.
- Handling your membership, including fees and related communications, based on the membership relationship, and complying with legal obligations, namely tax obligations.
- Sending APEEN news through the mailing list, only if you asked for it in the form. You can withdraw this consent at any time.
- Protecting the website against abuse, based on APEEN's legitimate interest.
How the data are handled
Messages and membership applications sent through the website are delivered to APEEN by email and are not stored on the website. The data are accessed only by members of APEEN's governing bodies and staff who need them for the purposes above. The companies that provide APEEN with website hosting and email services process the data only on APEEN's behalf.
To send its newsletter, APEEN uses Mailchimp, provided by The Rocket Science Group LLC (part of Intuit), based in the United States, where the recipients' names and email addresses are stored. Mailchimp may record whether each newsletter was opened and which links were clicked. The transfer of these data to the United States is covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, to which this company has signed up.
APEEN does not sell your data or share them for third-party marketing.
How long we keep the data
- Contact messages: as long as needed to reply and follow up.
- Member data: while you are a member and, after that, for the period required by law, for example for accounting and tax purposes.
- Mailing list: until you withdraw your consent, which you can do at any time through the link at the end of each newsletter.
- IP address of form submissions: 24 hours.
Cookies
This website does not use analytics, advertising or social media cookies, does not store information in your browser and does not use external services that track your browsing. The website's management area, reserved for APEEN, uses only a session cookie that is necessary for signing in.
Links to other websites
The website includes links to external websites, such as social networks, scientific journals and event organisers. Those websites have their own privacy policies, for which APEEN is not responsible.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, their rectification or erasure, restriction of processing and portability, object to processing and withdraw any consent you have given, for example for the mailing list. To do so, write to apeen@apeen.pt. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Portuguese data protection authority, Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (www.cnpd.pt).
